Pedro Costa
Pedro Costa has over 20 years of experience working in financial markets in a variety of areas. He has worked in capital markets and in sales and trading within the structure of international banks and as an independent operator and member of the NYMEX/CME and the Intercontinental Exchange. This broad experience gives him a differentiated view of the relationship between markets, products and clients both at the level of large corporate institutions and at the individual client level. His areas of expertise include derivatives trading and risk management, futures and options, commodity markets and microstructure, trading and risk management systems (floor based, electronic, OTC), exchange traded products, as well as, financial statement analysis, corporate credit, and valuation. Being born and having worked in Brazil, Pedro still has a strong connection to Latin American markets and Brazilian markets in particular.
Pedro began his career at Banco Pactual S.A. (currently BTG Pactual) in Rio de Janeiro, where he became responsible for the placement of Brazilian Euro issues with international investors. He later returned to the United States and joined Merrill Lynch & Co. in their Fixed Income Private Placement group in New York. The group was responsible for the origination, structuring and placement of both foreign and domestic issuers and brought approximately US$25 billion to the market in new deals per year.
In 1999, Pedro joined KG Capital Group and became a market maker and proprietary trader on the floor of the New York commodities exchanges. His first stop as a floor trader was as an options market maker in the sugar pit of the Coffee, Sugar & Cocoa Exchange (which later became the NYBOT and was subsequently acquired by the ICE). Since then, he has been a member and trader on the ICE and the NYMEX/CME and has moved on to trade many products and markets on and off the floor (OTC and screen based) including natural gas and crude oil, energy products, metals, soft commodities and indices.
Throughout his career Pedro has had the opportunity to advise other traders and market participants on matters in which he has an area of expertise, including running training sessions for junior traders and giving risk management and strategic advice. Pedro has recently joined MPC Training and Advisory as a subject matter expert in his areas of knowledge.
Pedro is currently an Adjunct Professor of Business at Caldwell College in NJ, where he teaches Securities Analysis and Markets. He has a B.S. in finance from The McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia and an MBA from the Stern School of Business at New York University.
